There are many ways in which you can upgrade
your bathroom; some cost lots and some cost little, but a bathroom
upgrade is one most likely to add value to your home. One way to
upgrade your bathroom is to change the bath. You might have a bath
with a poor seal job around the walls and whatever you do it still
looks grubby. How about pulling it out and changing to a
freestanding bath with legs? These used to be what you would find at
grandma’s house, but today they come in a range of designer colors
and finishes. Or you might like the idea of a spa-bath, a great way
to relax after a heavy day at the office.
You may decide to dispense with the bath altogether and just have a
shower stall. This will certainly give you more floor space, but
you’ll probably have to renew the flooring to fill in the space. Or,
a cupboard may be just the thing to fit in that spot. Or perhaps you
have a shower stall you are not very happy with because it takes a
lot of cleaning and besides your bathroom is so small.
A fantastic idea to give you more space without pulling any wall
down is to dispense with the shower stall altogether. Not the spray
of course, but if you take out those walls that surround the shower
you’ll have much more room. The only thing you’ll need to make sure
of is that the floor tiles slope well towards the drain hole. Just
imagine; no more scrubbing that shower out. All you need to do is
mop the floor.
Bathrooms need heating so how about having a new ceiling mounted
heating unit installed – along with an exhaust fan to take out the
steam. Less steam means less mold means less cleaning. Recessed
lighting is popular these days, but if you have it in the bathroom
you’ll find that it will cast shadows right where you don’t want
them. Attractive lighting is the answer.
If your bathroom is small, you might think of enlarging the window.
Traditional bathrooms seem to have small, high windows that don’t
let in much light and are difficult to clean. If you’d rather not
have a bigger window, hang a mirror opposite it to reflect the
light, or have all your cupboard doors replaced with mirrored doors.
The back of the bathroom door is an often-overlooked place. If the
door is not a sliding one, you could use it for either a full-length
mirror or a set of hooks to hang clothes or towels on. If you have
room in your bathroom, a cane chair is a decorative and useful
addition. Flowers, a pot plant of greenery or a picture on the wall
would also make it look fresh and inviting.
