Can a standard towel warmer heat my bathroom in the winter?
A common question with a pretty simply answer. Its all in the watts, the standard bathroom heater is 1,000 to 2,000 watts. A small 2 bar towel warmer is around 60 watts and a large 16 bar towel warmer only puts out 300 watts. Another big reason why the standard bar towel warmer doesn't work as a room heater is the thermostat. The towel warmer only cares about one temperature its own cross bar temperature. A standard towel warmer keeps it cross bars at 131ºF- 167ºF, its able to do this with a built-in thermostat. The towel warmer doesn't know if its winter or summer its only goal is to keep the towels at the same temperature no matter what the room temperature is.
An electric wall or ceiling heater is designed to heat the room, its constantly monitoring the room air temperature. On warm days the heater never even starts up. On like the towel warmer it never shuts off for more than a few minutes. So what do you do when you only have the money to by a wall heater or a towel warmer?
Buy a electric wall heater with a built-in towel bar. It doesn't work the same as a standard towel warmer, the cross bar may or may not be heated. And they usually only come with one maybe two cross bars. The heater is designed to heat the room, heating the towel is a secondary concern. The heater is monitoring the air temperature so in the summer time the towel bar is just a towel ring.
This type of heater is great on a cold winter morning, the heating panel is warming the room and the towel all night long. So by the time you take your shower or bath you have a warm and dry towel. So to recap towel warmers do put out some heat just not enough to depend on. And wall heaters only care what the rooms air temperature is. Towel warmer never shut off unless you shut them off, so you get the same heat all year.
